Promote Yourself Through Forums
Using forums is one of the best ways to promote yourself and your site. Forums are communities where people come together to discuss certain topics, ask questions, debate and generally converse about whatever subject the forum is geared towards. You can think of it as a public meeting place where people come to talk and listen to each other. What many people forget is that forums are great ways of spreading the word about yourself or your company and giving back to your industry at the same time.
For example, say you are a cell phone rental company who is trying to spread the word about a special deal or product. If you go in, create a profile and just post an advertisement, chances are the comment will be deleted and you may be blocked from that forum. Many forums have specific rules that prohibit blanket advertising and even if they don’t, you can bet your post won’t be read.
However, if you go into a forum, create a profile, introduce yourself and become a part of the dialogue, the opportunities for promoting your business are numerous. Answer people’s questions, private message them and tell them their idea was interesting, be helpful and congenial and drop links to your site along the way. Soon, you’ll be able to say something like “stop by my cell phone rental site and check out this deal if you’re traveling abroad.”
This is the best form of promotion; not only are you using your knowledge to help people, you’re creating a presence that people respect and situating yourself as an authority in your field.
