Tagatum’s Playing With Tags
Tagatum is the new site of a tag-related experiment. From Tagatum:
“…The main supposition of the project is that tags specified by blogs’ authors in their blog posts are associated between each other. Our tag spider runs over blogs feeds, gathers the set of tags from each blog post and then combines tag pairs from the set of tags.”
Tagtum “rates” tags by how many other specific terms a certain tag is associated with, then ranks them by “popularity.”
It does several things that can be quite valuable:
- 1) it suggests new related keywords based off of the relationship between tags in a post
- 2) it ranks them by popularity
- 3) it lists most popular tag pairs
- 4) It lists statistics for the tags (e.g. total tags, total pairs)
Much in the way Google find relevant keywords and phrases, Tagatum puts two and two together and relates different tags in the same post together. For example, lets say I tag this post with Tagatum, tag tools and blog posts. Tagatum assumes that since these tags are related to the same post, they’re related to eachother.
